This page lists the ministers of Woodside Community Church of the Nazarene since its first opening in 1961.
Rev. Stanley Tranter. 1961 – 1973.
Rev Stanley Tranter and his Wife Edna arrived with their 5 children (3 in their mid-teens and a couple of late arrivals). He served God and the Woodside community for twenty two years until his retirement in 1973.
Rev. Reg Hogan. 1973 – 1977.
Rev. Reg Hogan was called as minister in 1973 as successor to Rev. Stanley Tranter. Rev. Hogan was from Northern Ireland and served as pastor until his resignation in 1977.
Warren Tranter. 1977 – 1995.
Following the resignation of Rev. Hogan, Warren Tranter, who was then working in Banking in London, had a distinct call of God into the ministry and subsequently became the next Pastor of the church. The Rev. Warren Tranter resigned from the ministry of the Nazarene Denomination in 1995. His lasting legacy was the construction of a new church building and a thriving church community.
Interregnum 1995-6.
The Church Board and Secretary continued the ministry of the church whist the search for a new Pastor was conducted.
Rev. Clive Burrows. 1996 -2000.
The Rev Clive Burrows was called to Pastor the Woodside church in 1996; At the time he was teaching at the European Nazarene College in Switzerland. Rev. Burrows resigned from Woodside when he was offered a position at the Nazarene Theological College in Manchester, and then subsequently as the District Superintendent of the British Isles South District.
Interregnum 2000-1.
Once again the Church Board and Secretary maintained the calling of the church in ministering to the community. We were also blessed at the time to have a young lady who had been brought up from infancy in the church and was studying theology at London Bible College in Northwood, she had achieved her MA and had decided to do additional studies. She was an anointed preacher and she agreed to minister God’s word until a new Pastor was appointed. This was an inspired decision; we were giving valuable experience to a gifted young woman and assisted with her College Fees.
Rev, Geoff Austin. 2001 – 2008.
Our next minster was the Rev. Geoff Austin who was called from Perth Church of the Nazarene in 2001. Rev. Austin pastored the flock until he resigned in January 2008.
Rev. Erica Tuxworth. 2008 – 2021.
Erica Tuxworth was an Associate Pastor under Rev David Perry at North Watford Church of the Nazarene (Balmoral Road). She had married David Tuxworth a gifted musician who as a family we had known since the mid 1950’s in Hull Church of the nazarene. At the time Erica was studying to complete her ordination and agreed to help with preaching God’s word at Woodside.
Erica subsequently received a unanimous call from the Woodside Church fellowship; we agreed to fund the remainder of her college fees and had the joy of witnessing her ordination with David at her side.
In 2018, under Erica’s leadership, the North Watford Church of the Nazarene amalgamated with the Woodside fellowship since their congregation was too small to continue a viable witness in North Watford. (The premises were eventually taken over by a Portuguese speaking Nazarene church plant, which is now thriving as a fully organised Nazarene fellowship).
Erica tendered her resignation from the Woodside Community Church of the Nazarene on the 31st July 2021 due to underlying health issues.
